I have spent the last four weeks at home in North Uist traveling around each day sketching and taking images of the endless sources of inspiration. Coming home every summer is definitely the highlight of my year. The ever changing light and vast untamed landscapes are always inviting. Spending the rest of my year working from my studio in Dundee, these trips are always vital for new inspiration to take home to my studio. This year has been filled with colour and mood. Take a look at some of my inspiration whilst traveling around Uist. I often sit amongst the rocks and sketch my immediate surroundings, listening to the sea roll in and out.

30 x 60cm oil on canvas on a hallway wall.
Hello, I’m delighted that I have sold most of last years paintings now. However, I’m now producing new work and open to create commissions depending on your requirements.
Popular sizes are 30 x 40 cm, 50 x 70cm and 30 x 60 inches.
If you see any works on here that you like and are no longer available let me know and I can work on something similar, alternatively I have a wide range of source images based on seascapes and Machair which I would be happy to share with you as the basis for your commission.
Please follow my Facebook where I regularly update recent works Eilidh Stewart Fine Artist.
It can be hard to appreciate the depth of details when looking at paintings in photographic form. My recent Machair series has a lot of thick impasto layers which contrast to thinner more translucent areas of application. Layering is what brings the painting to life. Here are a few macro details of recent paintings, enabling you to see the surface textures. Oil paintings are always better viewed in the flesh, however particularly at the moment we know this cannot always be possible. Enjoy, if you wish to enquire about a commission I would be happy to discuss your requirements.
Here are a selection of my sketches from North Uist. I have tried to capture the movement and mood of a different subject this year. The machair has wonderful flowers and grasses, these provided endless inspiration.
